Merry Christmas
I know Christmas is a complicated time for many of us. For some, it's about getting through. For others, it's about enjoying the time. For most, it's a little bit of both. Whatever the case is for you, remember there is a "next week".
I know this song, "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", is wishful thinking. Sometimes wishing and pretending for a little while can be okay. We know that our troubles will be with us. But for a time, perhaps, they can be to the side a bit.
Here are the lyrics:
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Let your heart be light
From now on our troubles will be out of sight
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Make the Yule-tide gay
From now on our troubles will be miles away
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who are dear to us
Gather near to us once more
Through the years
We all will be together
If the Fates allow
Hang a shining star upon the highest bough
And have yourself a merry little Christmas now
It's interesting that the original version, written in the 40s, had very different lyrics which were dismissed by Judy Garland and ultimately changed. They are:
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
It may be your last
Next year we may all be living in the past
Have yourself a merry little Christmas
Pop that champagne cork
Next year we will all be living in New York
No good times like the olden days
Happy golden days of yore
Faithful friends who were dear to us
Will be near to us no more
But at least we all will be together
If the Fates allow
From now on we'll have to muddle through somehow
So have yourself a merry little Christmas now
Use whichever version works for you!

Thank you Paul! :-) I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas too whichever lyrics you decide to sing. Your playing is wonderful btw. You keep inspiring me to get back to my music...
Really appreciate the line "remember there is a next week"...yes, a good thing to remember....
Cheers! :-)
Thanks Jahda! Yes, but next week is another set of issues: changing decades and what not!
True, but who knows?
Maybe 2010 is the year we will be healed? Maybe it is the year all of these "parts" will integrate and we will become focused and centered--that much further along on the path? Maybe with personality integration enlightenment will have a chance, and, with that, our suffering will cease and there will be a peacefulness within us that we have never known?
And, from that place, we will be able to help others still caught in the trigger-happy dissociative nightmare we're trapped in now?
Maybe...?
What a difference in meaning between the two sets of lyrics. The original is probably closer to where I am at the moment, but it will be the current version that will be stuck in my head for the rest of the day :)
Wishing you and your family a safe and happy holiday season.
Take care,
CG
